Fluidity matches the right technology and the right vendor to your use case, designs the solution around it, and — when you want us to — manages the entire project from genesis through deployment and into operation.

Twenty years in location technology means we already speak the language. We know what the specifications actually mean, which claims survive contact with a real site, and which questions a vendor would rather you did not ask. You should not have to become an RTLS expert in order to buy one.

Principle

It starts with
one question.

“Where are my things?” That is how almost every engagement begins. Sometimes it is tooling that keeps walking. Sometimes stock that cannot be found in a warehouse the size of four football pitches. Sometimes trailers in a yard, or equipment across a hospital, or people during an evacuation. One problem, and it justifies the project on its own.

But the infrastructure that answers it also answers the next four, and the cost of adding those later is close to zero if the foundation was right. So we design for the use case and the budget — not for the brief in front of us, and never for a product we happen to sell. That costs marginally more up front and it is the difference between a pilot that stalls and a system that spreads.

Twenty years of doing this means the answer usually arrives in the first conversation — and so does the honest version of what it will cost.

STAGE 01

Discover

The use case first: what you need to know, how often, and what the answer is worth. Then the site, with an RF planning tool and a notebook — construction, materials, ceiling heights, sightlines, cable runs, power, sky view, and how things and people actually move, which is rarely how the floor plan suggests.

STAGE 02

Design

Technology selected against the use case and the budget. Infrastructure placement modelled and validated for coverage and geometry. Zones defined to match how the site is genuinely used, not how it is drawn. Integration points agreed with whoever owns the downstream systems.

STAGE 03

Deliver

We manage the deployment rather than perform it. Vendors, installers, cabling contractors and your own IT, held to one plan and one standard, with one person answerable when something slips. Then commissioning, calibration and the tuning that decides whether it actually works — because a system that holds accuracy in an empty corridor and drifts in a full hall has been installed, not delivered.

STAGE 04

Operate & refine

Training for the people who use it daily, and ongoing management of the whole estate. The system has to change with them, and refining it is not an afterthought; it is most of the value in years two and three.

You have an internal team and a plan. We define the use case, survey the site and validate the design before you spend the capital — often the cheapest money a project spends.

Most projects are assembled from products that already exist — that is usually the right answer, and it is what we recommend. But not every requirement has a product behind it, and Fluidity has spent years on the other side of that line.

Applications, integrations, middleware and the interfaces that put location where people already work.

Device behaviour — update rates, power profiles, sensing and the trade-offs that decide battery life in the field.

Hardware

Electronics design where an existing tag or anchor cannot meet the requirement, the environment or the form factor.

Mechanical

Enclosures and mountings built for the actual environment — impact, wash-down, temperature, mounting constraints, and how it survives being handled every day.

Worked example: a construction site with no mains power and gates that moved needed proximity stations that did not exist as a product. We engineered them — off-the-shelf electronics, our own firmware, a housing built for pole mounting, forktruck relocation and two years of weather, running thirty days on solar and battery alone. Candour

When we say no.

RTLS is not always the answer, and a consultancy that never says so is selling, not advising. We will tell you to wait, or to solve it another way, when:

  • The network isn't ready. Location infrastructure needs power and backhaul in places sites rarely have them. Sometimes that is the project you need first.
  • The process problem is the real problem. If nobody acts on the alert, precise location changes nothing.
  • The expectation and the budget do not meet. Some sites will not deliver what is being asked at a price anyone will sign off. Better to know before the purchase order than after it.
  • A simpler technology does the job. If presence detection at a door answers the question, you do not need positioning across a campus.
